dailystrips - Dilbert

Matthew Williams-2
I have committed a fix to the dailystrips strips.def as r1500.  Dilbert
stopped working earlier this week.

Just committed r1501 as a further update to strips.def for Dilbert.  The
pattern is different for Sunday strips.

I am not using mh these days (although that may change again soon), but
I do keep up with the list so I can keep dailystrips running.  I just
fixed Dilbert yet again along with the changes UnitedMedia made to their
site this week.  I also have a flock of web comics in my strips.def that
are not in the standard one.  So, what is the best way for me to get my
changes out to the rest of you and rolled back into the mh project?

The best way is always a unified diff against trunk via e-mail to either the
list, me or another committer.

BTW, I am almost done testing a minor patch that affects a lot of the comics.
Unitedmedia strips are not working and seem to have moved to comics.com.  I
should be committing that change later today.

Letcher Ross
Matt,

Have you figured out why Unitedmedia strips are not working?

Thanks.

Re: dailystrips - Dilbert

jchonig
I've had my own script to pull comics off of Unitedmedia which I had
been using for years and it stopped working last week.  It would put
them in a local folder and I would read them with an RSS reader.

So I went to comics.com and found that I can customize an RSS feed and
now read the same comics in Google Reader.  I now read all but one of my
web comics there.  No more S/W to maintain.

Thanks (谢谢).

Jeff

I committed a patch to the 2.105 branch yesterday (r1556) that fixes the
unitedmedia comics.  The solution was to change the rules to refer to
comics.com instead.  The majority of the patch was provided by Daniel Rich.

Re: dailystrips - Dilbert

In reply to this post by Matthew Williams-2
Good news, I think I just found a fix for Dilbert as well!  I had to
hack it a bit to make it work for Sundays, and hopefully didn't break
the weekday updates in the process.   However, see if this works for
anyone else (especially tomorrow):

strip dilbert
        name Dilbert
        artist Scott Adams
        homepage http://dilbert.com/
        type search
        searchpage <a href="http://www.dilbert.com/strips/comics/%Y-%m-%d/">http://www.dilbert.com/strips/comics/%Y-%m-%d/
        searchpattern <img.+?src="(http://dilbert.com/dyn/str_strip/[^"]*strip(\.sunday)*\.gif)"
        provides latest
end

The one thing that I still can't make work is Sunday Schlock Mercenary.
The problem is that he posts the Sunday strips as multiple images.  As
far as I can tell from the docs, there isn't a way to make this work
with dailystrips.  Does anyone else know of a way to do this?

Re: dailystrips - Dilbert

Here's another option:
strip dilbert
         type search
         name Dilbert
         artist Scott Adams
         homepage http://www.dilbert.com
         searchpage http://www.dilbert.com
         searchpattern "(/dyn/str_strip[/\d]+?\d+.strip(.sunday)?.gif)"
         baseurl http://www.dilbert.com
         provides latest
end

This one has been working for me for some time (the most recent
problems people have had with dilbert I hadn't really noticed).
Sorry, been meaning to post ...

Rick
