Why won't this virtual directory show up?

ricks03
MH 2.100

I thought I understood this well enough to have it work. apparently not.

mh.private.ini
html_alias_outside=d:/misterhouse/data/web
html_alias2_outside=d:/misterhouse/data/web
(both just in case?)

File to display:
D:\misterhouse\data\web\weather_conditions.txt

web page: D:\misterhouse\web\ia5\outside\menus.shtml
<a href='weather_conditions.txt'>
<img src="images/localweather.gif" alt='Internet Conditions' border=0></a><br>

error in the mh log

Unrecognized html request: get_req=/ia5/outside/weather_conditions.txt get_arg=
  header=GET /ia5/outside/weather_conditions.txt HTTP/1.1

and on the web page:
This page can not be found:
<http://127.0.0.1:888/misc/http:/ia5/outside/weather_conditions.txt>/ia5/outside/weather_conditions.txt

I can't figure out why this particular case won't work? Is it because
there's already a d:/misterhouse/web/ia5/outside?

Try this instead:

html_alias2_ia5    = d:/misterhouse/data/web/ia5

Then create d:/misterhouse/data/web/ia5/outside/weather_conditions.txt

The idea is you can override what is normally found in the default the
mh/ia5 dir with whatever you put in your private
misterhouse/data/web/ia5 dir
